Patients and the public are an important part of research, providing insight for researchers and clinicians about what it is like to live with a specific condition as well as the potential benefits and/or impact of future research on their lives.
At Salford R+D, our Engagement Team offers a range of ways to ensure that effective patient and public involvement and engagement is at the heart of the research process. The team offers bespoke advice and support to researchers – from the initial grant development and application stage, to facilitation of patient and public involvement throughout the delivery of the research. This may include working in partnership with research teams to facilitate focus groups and consultation exercises, developing Citizen Juries, online surveys, conducting semi-structured interviews, supporting individuals to take an active part in research advisory groups and offering training to both researchers and those interested in research to develop knowledge and skills in effective patient and public involvement.
Our work in this field is an essential part of the research process and aims to ensure that developments in health research reflect the needs of all those involved. This is equally important in the latter stages of the research process, with the team able to offer further support and advice in making research and evidence accessible to a broad audience.
If you would like to find out more about the support available to develop and integrate patient and public involvement in your research, contact Jess Zadik, Engagement in Research Manager.
Ensuring that the breadth and diversity of the research that takes place through Salford R+D is effectively communicated to the research community, health and social care colleagues and our population is also an essential part of the team’s function. Key developments in research are promoted to both a Trust wide and external audience at a local, regional and national level, providing an effective platform to publicise the high quality research that is making a difference to everyday lives.
If you would like support to promote your research, contact Claire Mooney, R+D Communications Officer.
Additionally the team is able to support recruitment into studies through Citizen Scientist. Researchers are able use this service to promote their studies to members of the public who have registered an interest in taking part in research. Studies are promoted in a variety of ways depending on the target audience, which includes a dedicated website, a monthly e-bulletin and social networking.
