The purpose built Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at Salford Royal has been established for the successful delivery, oversight and management of clinical research across the Trust.
The CRF offers:
Purpose built facilities and convivial setting to enhance patients’ experience of being involved in clinical research.
Fully equipped examination rooms.
Temperature controlled pharmacy store.
Lab processing area and an IV infusion area.
Dedicated & experienced clinical research staff, including an extensive nurse team, , physician, clinical trials administrators and a research health care assistant.
Infrastructure & capability to safely run Phase 1-Phase IV trials.
Broad experience in CTIMP, observational and device studies, supporting experimental and translation research in key areas.
Dedicated Clinical Research Physician with Advanced Life Support Training.

Recruiting to ‘time and target’ and an ethos of ‘inspection readiness’ underpins the success and reliability of the CRF – with patient safety at the heart of everything we do.
With the expert support of Salford’s R+D department, the Clinical Research Steering Committee, Pharmacy and other departments across the trust, local Universities and partner institutions such as the Wellcome Trust CRF, we offer flexible study management to deliver research to the highest standard.
The CRF is based in Barnes Building, named after former Executive Medical Director Peter Barnes who helped to develop one of the country’s first mobile coronary care units, introduced fibre-optic bronchoscopy to the Trust and worked with a renal physician and an anaesthetist to create an intensive care area, which set the foundations for the Trust’s critical care unit.
