The Government’s Plan for Growth introduced incentives for efficiency in Initiating and Delivering Clinical Research.
The number of new studies delivered in the NHS has increased, and the number of patients engaged in research activity has hit an all-time high. We are one of the top 100 performing Trusts committed to delivering clinical research to time and target. Visit the NIHR Clinical Research Network performance page to find out more about how Trusts are performing on research.
We are also committed to making information available on our performance in setting up and starting recruitment to studies (Initiating) and on recruiting the agreed number of participants in the agreed timescale (Delivering). Currently information is included for all studies that are categorised as clinical trials. This includes studies of new medication and other interventions such as trials of different therapies.
Benchmarks have been set and the organisation is trying to ensure that as many trials as possible are recruiting within 70 days of making an application for study approval and are recruiting the required participants in an agreed time frame. Sometimes this isn’t possible despite best efforts and it is important to understand why problems occur in order to understand how we can improve.
The information available includes all studies that have been submitted for approval and have started at the Northern Care Alliance in the past 12 months. This will be updated every three months.
